Global Governance is endeavouring to master the current global political and economic challenge by close coordination and cooperation.

The economic and financial crisis’ global impact is making this clearer than ever. The Heads of State and Government of the seven largest national economies and Russia have met regularly at the World Business Summit for several years in the so-called G8 format. As a reaction to the current financial crisis, the 20 major industrial and threshold countries meet at the G20 Summit to discuss financial market issues in particular. In these key formats of Global Governance, solutions to problems relating to business’ access to finance, free trade and climate change are discussed, all of which have a major im-pact on German companies. This is why the BDI engages in the run-up to the Summits.

To ensure German industry’s voice is heard at the G8 Summit, the BDI launched the G8 Business Summit in 2007 in Berlin. At the meeting be-tween the Presidents of the G8 countries’ business associations and Busi-ness Europe, the international business expectations of the Heads of State and Government at the G8 Summit were presented in the form of a Joint Declaration.

Together with its international partners BDI represents business interests in the run-up to the G20 summits.
