The United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the most important export markets for German business in the Middle East. In 2004 Germany and the UAE established a strategic partnership to further stabilise economic ties. The volume of trade has more than doubled since then and has now reached around EUR 8.5 billion (2008).

The BDI actively accompanies the development of mutual economic ties and regularly draws attention to business and investment opportunities in the UAE. In addition, the BDI works actively to represent German business interests as regards economic issues, for example in questions relating to the investment regulations and double taxation.

With the official foundation and opening of the German-Emirates Chambers of Industry and Commerce (AHK) on the occasion of Federal Minister of Economics zu Guttenberg’s visit to Abu Dhabi on 9 May 2009, a key demand of business was fulfilled and the economic ties between Germany and the Emirates raised to a new level.
