In London, Washington and Tokyo the BDI Representations serve as forums for German enterprises. They promote business contacts in the regions and act as representatives of the interests of German business in dealings with the respective governments.

BDI/BDA The German Business Representation, Brussels

Excellent relations at international level, above all in the European Union, are essential to German industry. In this context, the realisation of the European single market is of key importance. The United Kingdom is one of the most important foreign markets and business locations for German industry world-wide today. More than 2500 German industrial enterprises now have subsidiaries in Great Britain, employing around 450,000 people. Since March 1999, the BDI has been represented in Great Britain by the Chief Executive of German Industry UK in London, Dr. Bernd Atenstaedt.

Due to the USA’s vital significance as a partner of German Business, the Bureau of the Representative of German Industry and Trade (RGIT) was founded in 1988 as a joint organization of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour. The set-up and tasks of the RGIT are unique in the German promotion of foreign trade and are a result of the special importance of both the economic and the economic-policy ties between the Federal Republic and the USA, as well as the USA’s significance in the multilateral context, in relation to the EU and within the framework of the WTO.
