Germany – Land of Ideas
This joint initiative of the Federal Government andGerman business community promotes Germany as a locationfor investment and industry and is represented bythe BDI. Federal President Horst Köhler is the patron ofthe initative, which aims to present a contemporary pictureof Germany, both domestically and abroad, and highlightthe strengths of Germany’s business and scientificcommunities. In a current project, various partners arecreating a three-year series of events entitled »Germanyand China – Moving Ahead Together« that will presentGermany’s cultural, economic, scientific and social diversityin several of China’s cities and provinces. The competition»365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas« highlightslocations that bear testimony to the wealth of ideas, creativityand commitment of the citizens of Germany.
econsense – Forum for Sustainable Development of German Business
The financial and economic crisis serves to underscorethe significance of the main focus at econsense: sustainability.The forum discussed many facets of corporateresponsibility for sustainable development in 2008, includingdemographic change, climate protection, challengesof sustainable management and the role of non-financialperformance indicators in corporate valuation. The DemographicRisk Map, a tool helping companies take demographicchanges into account in their strategies, hasbeen very well received (www.demographic-risk-map.eu).econsense has also launched an online reference guide atwww.klimatech-atlas.de that provides easy-to-understandexplanations of key technologies and climate protectioninnovations; in 2009 the BDI climate initiative will also beincluded here.
Förderkreis der Deutschen Industrie e.V. (Society for the promotion of German industry)
Since it was established in 1974, the Förderkreis derDeutschen Industrie has provided support to organisationsthat promote awareness of economic and industrial issuesand how they are interrelated. Nearly 100 companiesand individuals have joined the society to carry out jointprojects that affect all industries. In 2008 the society providedthe BDI, the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft (IW),the Forschungsinstitut für Wirtschaftsverfassung undWettbewerb (FIW) and the Gesellschaft zur Förderung desUnternehmernachwuchses with funding for projects andevents. The society’s long-term objective of improving the framework conditions for industry in Germany will top the agenda again in 2009.
forum vergabe (forum public procurement)
forum vergabe was established in 1993. It now has morethan 400 members consisting of organisations, associationsand companies – primarily from Germany, but alsofrom Austria and Switzerland. forum vergabe seeks to promotethe exchange of experience and opinions on currenttopics in national and international public procurementand is a source of guidance in the ever more complicatedworld of public procurement and public procurement law.
Industrie-Pensions-Verein e. V. (Industry PensionAssociation)
The Industrie-Pensions-Verein (IVP) is a dependable partnerfor associations and companies in matters concerningboth private and corporate pension plans. Since 2007the IPV also provides services for private health insurance.IPV representatives provide up-to-date informationon pension plans to associations and companies at on-siteevents.
Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI e. V. (CulturalCommittee of German Business within the BDI)
The Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft im BDI e. V. isan independent promoter of all genres of art and cultureacross the nation. The Committee now has more than 400members from all sectors of business and industry – amongthem renowned companies and personalities. The associationalso serves as a mouthpiece for artists, producers andsupporters of culture and for the cultural industry. In addition,the association provides its member companies withconsultation on sponsoring of the arts, cultural educationfor the up-coming generation of managers and on foreignart and culture.
