North Africa and Middle East
The economic importance of North Africa as well as of the Middle East for Germany and the EU has increased greatly over the past years. With its regional work the BDI supports the intensification of mutual business ties by providing information about the business opportunities, by creating platforms to establish business contacts (b2b), by representing German industry’s interests vis-à-vis the political decision-makers and by serving as a contact partner in matters relating to economic policy.
During the first trip of a European industrial association after the political upheavels in Egypt BDI President Hans-Peter Keitel confirmed that German industry would support Egypt.
In 2010 Germany was the largest European exporter to North Africa as well as the Near and Middle East, at around 36 billion euro.
