Information and Telecommunications
Information and communications technology (ICT) is a catalyst for innovation and growth in Germany. The BDI actively promotes expanding state-of-the-art IT infrastructures. Industry’s competitiveness hinges on its ability to manufacture higher-quality products more efficiently than in other parts of the world by using IT-supported processes.
As a cross-sectional technology and business sector, ICT is a major part of the added value chain. One third of Germany’s economic growth in the last years can be attributed to ICT and its applications. ICT is growing significantly stronger than the economy as a whole and is an important economic driver. The government must lay the groundwork for ICT properly if it is to have a stimulating effect on the economy by investing more in interactive content and services, in administration, education and health.
Processes must become more digitised, automated and interlinked. This will allow everyone to save time and costs, which will increase value added in Germany. At the same time, intelligent regulations should promote private investment and competition.
