Business for Climate Protection
German industry takes climate protection seriously.
With the BDI initiative "Business for Climate Protection" it faces up to its responsibility and provides long-term answers to climate change.
Industry can provide innovative and cost-efficient solutions for climate protection. These must now be implemented worldwide – also there where the highest emissions are to be expected in the next few years, above all in those regions of the world becoming rapidly industrialised.
German enterprises' technologies and products serve climate protection. At the same time they provide great business opportunities. The 2007 BDI climate survey "Costs and Potential of Greenhouse Gas Abatement in Germany" deomonstrates this. German industry is increasingly investing in the research and development of innovative ennvironmental technologies.
Germany is to remain world market and innovation leader in the field of climate protection. Germany is responsible for only three percent of worldwide CO² emissions. Germany alone cannot stop climate change, the problems have to be resolved globally. A new agreement must be achieved at the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009 to create a binding framework for climate protection worldwide.
The BDI initiative "Business for Climate Protection" is funded by more than 40 leading industrial enterprises and associations. Spokesman is Peter Löscher, Chairman of the Board at Siemens.
