The Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE) was founded in 1949 as the political top-level association of the German food and drink industries.

Today, 21 branch organisations as well as 45 individual food and drink producing firms form its membership. Its headquarter is in Berlin.

The BVE is member of the Federation of German Industry (BDI) and the Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the European Union (CIAA). Through the latter it is involved in the globally operating International Alliance of Food Product Associations (IAFPA). Within Germany, the BVE cooperates closely with the German Federation for Food Law and Food Science (BLL) which deals with legal and scientific issues for the entire German food and drink trade. Close ties exist also to the industry’s employers association (ANG) and the Research Association of the Food Industry (FEI).

The BVE’s principle task is the representation of its members’ common interests’ vis-à-vis political decision makers in federal and state governments, parliaments, public authorities and the European Commission. It speaks for the industry in its relations with the farming and the retail sector as well as operators in the catering and “out of the home” market. The BVE is a strong voice to be heard in the media. The BVE is the spokesman of the food and drink industry in fundamental questions of industrial policy and trade relations. Our main areas of activity are:

  • Economic and trade policy
  • Competitiveness
  • Consumer policy
  • Environment
  • Energy
  • Raw Materials
  • Logistics
  • Trade fairs
