Appropriate protection of personal data is essential for a trustful functioning of business life both online and offline.

When granting the respective legal structure the legislation must consider essential needs of the economy. For example it is not useful to restrict the possibilities to obtain adresses of potential customers and clients more than necesssary. There is also only few use for customers in to strong restriction, when it results in an increased amount of non-adressed advertising mail.

In the field of employees´ privacy there have been raised far-ranging political demands for tightening of German data protection laws. BDI will continue to remind legislation not to loose its sense of proportion and not to act populistically and driven by - ocurred or pretended - scandals.
